Soul Manipulation , Shadow of Doubt , and Muddle the Mixture are all counterspells that can do something else when a counterspell isn't warranted
You need the card to survive in order to assess how effectively it is contributing to the win

Fisher's Talent is an expensive investment for what it does in the first couple modes, and if you get it into play early you aren't likely to invest more mana into in to gain levels until late enough in the game that it loses value
