All round the card is very good at getting things dead at all stages of the game and it has about as high a floor as you can hope for in an otherwise playable removal spell
Becoming a 6/6 in the late game is nice, but I doubt that Gigantoad will make the cut all that often

Having the right number of spells that can search up lands and mana-producing permanent cards is vital in hitting your land drops and casting your larger creatures on-curve
That being said, I think the reasons for a card being banned can be broken down into two main categories: A card is too powerful on its own and almost every deck has to have it to be good
